2014 Season at Feather River - Season Opener Countdown (and video link...I hope!!)

It's time to start up the blog for this football season at Feather River.  Much has happened since last year.

As many of you know, Wes and Kelsey made the decision to leave Quincy last winter and head back to Utah so that Wes could focus on his training and preparation for the upcoming season.  He took online courses and spent a lot of time training at the gym and with a great speed coach in SLC.

In February, he got word that the head coach had made the decision to leave FRC which started a new round of looking for the next school - both JC and D1 schools.  A few months ago, FRC hired a new coach, Coach Andrus, who brings a wealth of coaching and consulting experience with over over 30 years at the high school, collegiate, UFL, NFL Europe, and NFL levels (Oilers and Titans).  Wes made the decision to return to FRC for a second year in hopes that he will get an offer to play D1 ball starting next year - he will have two more years of eligibility after this coming season.

Here is a great write up about him in the JC Scouting magazine with a recap of that article on the FRC website...

This year's schedule looks to be a good one with the opener today (Sept 5) at Diablo Valley College in the Bay Area.

Although I am not promising - it looks as though DVC might actually provide a live broadcast of the game via UStream.  Please follow the link below if you would like to watch the game live (I'm hoping it works...I'm getting up at 3am here in Saudi to watch!).  Wesley wears number 21 so you can keep an eye out for him.

Melanie has delayed her return to Saudi for a week and it just boarding the plane to San Francisco with her sister and will meet Kelsey and some of her family to watch the game this afternoon.  We are really excited that she gets to have that opportunity.  Melanie and the kids made the long drive to Quincy a few weeks ago to watch a scrimmage and reports were that Wes did pretty well.  I'm anxious to see how the first game goes.

If the plan has not changed, Wes will be playing nickel back (sort of a roving safety) as well as being on a number of special teams (punt team, kickoff team, and kickoff return).  He has had a great pre-season and has said that he is in the best shape of his life - should be an exciting year!!

Thanks for joining our blog - we'll keep you posted on the outcome of the season opener - 7 hours and counting!
