GAME DAY - FRC vs Chabot to be Televised!

Sorry for the delayed post.  Work has been busy.

Last week's game was a real close one, the won in overtime by 6 (kicker missed the PAT!).  Nate Stroshine intercepted a pass to win it - great game to watch.  Wes had a couple tackles, but only had two plays the entire 1st half to his side of the field...he was covering his new corner position well.

Today will be televised!  Hope you can join us - it is at 7:00pm PST.  HeRe is the link...I'll post a little quicker and hopefully with some pictures in the next couple days.

Tough Season Opener...

Well - it was a difficult season opener.  An away game at Diablo Valley College in the Bay area that ended up with a difficult 54-18 final score.

Melanie was able to attend the game before she returned home along with her sister, Marlene, and Kelsey and a number of her family.  The game was pretty much as exciting as the score.  For a more detailed description, see the link the this article...

Golden Eagles Start off Season Slowly

Wes had a respectable game - he had four tackles (3 unassisted and 1 assisted) along with one fumble recovery.  Kudos go to teammate Nate Stroshine who had 7 tackles (5 unassisted and 2 assisted).

Bottom line - the defense was on the field for 39:56 of the game...offense was on the field for 20:04.  The defense was pretty beat up and in order to see a little more success, the offense is going to have to step it up a bit this week.

So...next game is today - Saturday the 13th at home against the College of the Sequoias.  Kickoff is at 1:00pm local time.  Sorry that the video link didn't work last week...no such luck this week.

I'm anxious to be able to attend games 3-6...I'll be in the stands next week and will have pictures to post after the game.

Good luck today Golden Eagles...time to show them what kind of a team you can be.

2014 Season at Feather River - Season Opener Countdown (and video link...I hope!!)

It's time to start up the blog for this football season at Feather River.  Much has happened since last year.

As many of you know, Wes and Kelsey made the decision to leave Quincy last winter and head back to Utah so that Wes could focus on his training and preparation for the upcoming season.  He took online courses and spent a lot of time training at the gym and with a great speed coach in SLC.

In February, he got word that the head coach had made the decision to leave FRC which started a new round of looking for the next school - both JC and D1 schools.  A few months ago, FRC hired a new coach, Coach Andrus, who brings a wealth of coaching and consulting experience with over over 30 years at the high school, collegiate, UFL, NFL Europe, and NFL levels (Oilers and Titans).  Wes made the decision to return to FRC for a second year in hopes that he will get an offer to play D1 ball starting next year - he will have two more years of eligibility after this coming season.

Here is a great write up about him in the JC Scouting magazine with a recap of that article on the FRC website...

This year's schedule looks to be a good one with the opener today (Sept 5) at Diablo Valley College in the Bay Area.

Although I am not promising - it looks as though DVC might actually provide a live broadcast of the game via UStream.  Please follow the link below if you would like to watch the game live (I'm hoping it works...I'm getting up at 3am here in Saudi to watch!).  Wesley wears number 21 so you can keep an eye out for him.

Melanie has delayed her return to Saudi for a week and it just boarding the plane to San Francisco with her sister and will meet Kelsey and some of her family to watch the game this afternoon.  We are really excited that she gets to have that opportunity.  Melanie and the kids made the long drive to Quincy a few weeks ago to watch a scrimmage and reports were that Wes did pretty well.  I'm anxious to see how the first game goes.

If the plan has not changed, Wes will be playing nickel back (sort of a roving safety) as well as being on a number of special teams (punt team, kickoff team, and kickoff return).  He has had a great pre-season and has said that he is in the best shape of his life - should be an exciting year!!

Thanks for joining our blog - we'll keep you posted on the outcome of the season opener - 7 hours and counting!
